London - Free Tickets to Cutting Edge Design Exhibition
From the 22nd to the 25th of September 2011, Earls Court in London will be home to 100%Design, the UK's leading interior design exhibition. The annual event showcases highlights of talent and innovation. With over twenty thousand international professionals and a string of seminars on offer, the event is a springboard for up and coming designers and those in need of some design inspiration. For anyone with links to the trade, from designers and the press to students and enthusiasts, the event is entirely free of charge. Visitors must apply online before the 20th September, with early booking advised.
100%design will this year feature the work of a variety of distinguished designers and architects including Michael Young and Kenneth Grange. The glass and lighting group Fyrbox will exhibit Luminaire; a series of hand painted fabrics within laminated glass screens and doors which provide atmospheric lighting. French design company Espace Loggia will be showcasing their new generation of wall bed, which can be automatically raised into the ceiling when not in use. The model demonstrates a new method of space saving design, whereby furniture is either moveable or multipurpose.
The theme of furniture flexibility continues with Norwegian designer Caroline Olsson. The Bambi table features leg joints which fold inwards to allow the surface to be adjusted to different heights. The product has been praised for its simplicity and, whilst most people with a Clarke generator and a nail gun could replicate the simpler designs, the concept behind each design process is highly sophisticated. Indeed, it would take more than a Hitachi or Bosh tool kit to create Maximo Riera's octopus chair. Whilst made by hand, the elaborate and intricate design is a limited edition project so as to retain an exclusive and unique quality.
The exhibition is forward thinking, with a strong focus on the next generation. 100% futures is a branch of the exhibition dedicated to young designers. Visitors to the exhibition are introduced to retailers, manufacturers and all members of the international design community. It is an invaluable opportunity to network and gain advice and inspiration in a highly competitive field. A number of competitions and awards are also up for grabs, including the central bar competition which is organised in partnership with the Architecture Foundation. The event looks to be a highly concentrated mix of interior design talent, and should not be missed by anyone with an interest in the industry.
