RSPB Sanctuary Belfast Lough
The Warden, 75 Lyndhurst Avenue
Bangor, County Down , BT19 1AY
This heavily industrialised area by Belfast Lough retains much of the original
mudflats derived from land reclamation. But, bucking the trend of industry and
nature, there are several excellent birding sites along both the northern and
southern shores. There are artificial lagoons and mudflats remaining over large
areas of the inner lough with rockier shores and sandy bays towards its mouth.
The mudflats are important feeding areas for a variety of wading birds and wildfowl.
At high tide, flocks of wading birds, such as redshanks, oystercatchers and black-tailed
godwits, can be seen from the hide and viewing points.
Open: Viewpoints open at all times, observation room open Tue - Sun 0900 -
1700,
closed Mon's, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
